Revathy Menon: a noted film actress and a great film director was the proud recipient of 2007 Dayawati Modi Stree Shakti Samman. Revathy Menon has done more than hundred films in five Indian languages and received several awards such as the Film Fare Awards, the Film Fan Association Awards and the Cinema Express Awards for her portrayals in Tamil, Telegu, and Malayalam films.
The transition from acting to directing films came naturally to Revathy. My Friend MITR was her first directorial venture and won acclaim all over the world in various Film Festivals. The film won the National Award in the categories of Best Actress, Best Editor and the Best English Feature Film in the year 2002. In the same year Revathy received one Prestigious Silver Peacock Jury Award for Direction in the International Film Festival of India held in Delhi. Phir Milenge a film in Hindi based on an individuals fight against the attitude of society towards an HIV + person was Revathy’s second directorial venture which has also won wide critical acclaim.
Her films have a strong social message and are of great social relevance. Revathy an excellent exponent of Bharatnatyam Dance is also a well known social activist. Though she had taken and still takes interest in politics but her work for the work with children and those who are disabled is much commendable. In the award ceremony she spoke of sensitivity of people towards one another.
